A Little About Myself
From an early age, I have been driven by a strong desire to help others and to place the needs of those around me before my own. That value has consistently shaped my personal and professional decisions. Although I initially pursued a career in supply chain, I found the work unfulfilling and misaligned with my long-term goals. With the encouragement and support of my family, I made the decision to pursue my passion for education and earned my certification in math and special education during the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic.
Teaching allows me to combine my problem-solving skills with my commitment to service, while working directly with students who benefit from patience, structure, and individualized support. I strive to give my full effort to every responsibility I take on, both in and out of the classroom.
Outside of school, I am deeply committed to fitness and compete in long-distance triathlons, an endeavor that reinforces the discipline, perseverance, and resilience I bring to my teaching practice. Above all, I am a family-oriented person and a proud girl dad. Being present, dependable, and intentional in all aspects of my life is essential to who I am, and these values guide the dedication and care I bring to my students each day.
Teaching Philosophy
My philosophy as an educator is to find and leverage different teaching techniques in order for students to get a solid understanding of the tasks taught. For example, if two students are struggling to learn addition I would experiment with different techniques to see which learning modality works best for each student. For one student, a visual cue to assist, such as writing information on a piece of paper may work. For another student, they may find the same method difficult, and may require a more hands-on approach to solve the problem, such as using counting cubes in order to associate a value to the cubes needed for addition.
Teaching Career
Over my teaching career I have had a multitude of opportunities to work with a variety of students with disabilities. Those experiences taught me how to think outside the box to creatively deliver messages to students in various ways. While there are many different ways in math to come up with the correct answer, it’s essential for the students to understand the conceptual understanding of mathematics, and most importantly how to apply the lessons taught for future problems. The same is true when teaching special education, not all children learn the same way and it is the job of the teacher to adapt their methods to optimize understanding. My objective as an educator is not only to educate but to empower students to strive to improve their own abilities inside the classroom and in life.
